In specific markets, such as travel, shopping, and dining, customer engagement and purchases will happen more frequently via mobile device. A recent study found that one-third of all American adults use smartphones, and that percentage will continue to rise through-out this holiday season. The increase of location-based marketing will grow, and certain customer use cases will shift predominantly to mobile.
Travel-related click-through-rates are already higher on mobile devices than on PCs, and location-based marketing—fueled by the likes of the Lake of the Ozarks Smartphone App —will continue to soar.
This holiday season, we’ll see the majority of last-minute gift and store searches happen via mobile device. And with 50% of last-minute shopping projected to be done via mobile device in 2014, marketers in 2012 will have to consider mobile in their usage mix as adoption of the mobile smart device becomes increasingly universal.

Elite Marketing Options was the first company to get a Lake of the Ozarks app on the iPhone & Android markets before the big start of the season. The hard work and marketing paid off big time.
Kelly Calton co-owner of Elite Marketing Options, “I was very pleased with this holiday weekend, every morning I checked the downloads it was surprisingly higher then the previous days. We spent all week putting out posters and banners at all the hot spots at the lake. When I checked our iTunes connect on Friday at noon the app was up 97%, Saturday was up 110% and Sunday blew it away with an increase of 147%!”
Along with the posters and banners Elite handed out cards with the scan tag to over 5,000 visitors this weekend. Once a visitor scans the tag it sends them to LakeOzarks.mobi which reads the Smartphone device and provides a direct link to the phones specific market for the free download.
The Lake of the Ozarks App for Android hit the market in April. The iPhone was available for download the beginning of May. In this short time several thousand have downloaded the Lake of the Ozarks App.
The App is a GPS driven location and event finder. Categories are broken down into STAY, PLAY, EAT info to get visitors driving directions, general info, click through dial, web, social media, etc.
“People are most impressed with the Band Schedule feature,” Calton said “Live music is a big draw for our lake area restaurants and establishments, so it was only common sense to include this in the app.”
No internet connection or phone service is needed for the app to work.
Elite Marketing Options will be hosting a launch party at The Topsider on Friday June 10th. All attending will have a chance to win door prizes from lake area businesses. Drink tickets will be awarded at the door for all entering with the Lake of the Ozarks App downloaded on their Smartphone device.

Elite Marketing Options has been promoting the lake area since 2003. Calton said the company is constantly looking for new improved ways to get visitors to the lake area.

The marketing world is changing drastically as we approach 2011. It appears rationality has simply gone out the window as people panic in times of economic crisis. Examples of companies doing the exact opposite of what they should be doing happen daily. These businesses are ran by extremely intelligent people hiring other extremely gifted individuals to form teams, brainstorm, propose and ultimately decide upon the best approach. Yet the game plans are just not yielding the results that are hoped for.So lets look at the marketing approach others are suggesting…The average business owner/marketer may think the best thing to do in a crisis is to cut their advertising budget and channel remaining funds into the main stream known and tested forms of media. So this breaks down to:* Times are tough, the business is struggling* So lets cut the marketing budget* Budget’s cut so we need to be careful where the money is spent* Lets spend it how we did before (you mean the same ways that got us to this position in the first place?)* Wow! That’s a great looking ad! (it goes well with your competitors on page 3,7,9,11,17,22 and 33.)* Not sure how the ad performed but it looked great. Competitors keep doing it, it must be working…After this it seems clear the "cut the budget and spend safely" is not the route to follow.Cutting the marketing budget may be inevitable.
